RIP Mr Bennett
Mr Andrew Bennett sadly passed away Saturday (12 November 2022) morning. Our deepest condolences go out to his family and friends. This sad news was shared with the school and the OGU office this morning by his daughter Carol and step daughter Barbara.
Many Georgians will remember Mr Bennett with great affection and remember is Science classes. Mr Bennett retired from SGGS in 2005 after 18 years in the Science Department. He started at SGGS in 1963 but left after 5 years, and took up the position of deputy head of Norman Henshilwood, before returning to St George's in 1993.
Here is an excerpt from the Headmasters Report in The Georgian Magazine from 2005 by then Headmaster Mr B Hart.
"Andrew's science teaching has become legend. His absolute mastery of the subject, his insight into the exam requirements, his ability to produce scientists from sows' ears, and his humble, good nature made Andrew very special. Your students loved you and always spoke highly of you. Your wise counsel in my ear from time to time was invaluable, and your firm principles have been valued and respected. I know we have extended your contract into retirement for a number of years, but with the new FET Curriculum being introduced into the Senior School next year, you decided that your white lab coat should be hung up got good. All your colleagues and your many successful science students will sorely miss you. Go Well!"
From the community of Georgians around the world that had the privilege to be taught and guided by your caring spirit, we thank you for your dedication. Rest in peace good friend.
