Farewell Cocktail Party

Friday, 25 November the Old Georgian Union held a farewell cocktail party for long serving staff member Mr Willie Lategan. Georgians spanning his 28 years career at St George's Grammar School gathered to share their gratitude and thanks for his dedication and commitment to SGGS and the Georgian community.

In attendance was former headmaster Mr Paul Cannon (1983 - 1997) who appointed Mr Lategan back in 1995, present and past staff members, parents and Georgian friends. The OGU also provided childcare for the parents that where not able to arrange a sitter.

A video message was shared from Bruce Norris (OG 1998P) in cold Hamburg, Germany, reflecting on Mr Lategans influence not only to him but many Georgians. Michelle Basson (OG 2004S) had a few memories to share from her class and the early 2000s before reading out a few messages from Georgians that were not able to make the evening.

Jeroen Bormans (OG 2016T) reflected on Willies vast knowledge and bonds he forged with his students over the chess board and philosophical discussions before Melissa Hess (OG 2019S) gave a music tribute.

Mr Lategan was presented with an Old Georgian Union tie along with a plaque thanking him for his dedication over the years.

On behalf all Georgians and the OGU thank you to all who attended and helped to make this occasion a success and meaningful.

Thank you for Kaylin Oakes (OG 2010P) and her company "Come Eat WithMe" for the catering. To Phillip Bornman (OG 2005S) for the very generous financial donation towards the evening and to SGGS and the Head (Mr Julian Cameron.) for giving the Union the space to hold this event. Thank you to the Reynolds family for the use of the furniture that helped to make the event look so welcoming.

If would like to contribute towards this or future events, please contact the OGU office (sbornman@sggs.co.za) or click here to pay your OGU membership of R365 for the year. All donations are eligible for a section 18A tax certificate.

Thank you Mr Willie Lategan for your 28 years of dedication to all Georgians and we wish you a well and restful retirement. We look forward to hearing what's in store for your next chapter.
