High School Inter-House Mathematics Competition
The annual Inter-House competition winner was announced and awarded the floating trophy at a special assembly on Friday, 4 March. Lisulesizwe Sunjics (2022T) from Grade 12 was recognised as the overall winner, joining the ranks of our high achievers over many years.
The Inter-House Mathematics Competition was initiated by Old Georgian Robin Visser (OG 2014T) in 2015 while he was studying at UCT. Each year the paper is set by Robin and overseen my Mr V October, the Maths teacher in the High School.
After matriculating from SGGS in 2014, Robin graduated B.Sc. in Mathematics and Physics at the University of Cape Town in 2017. Then followed a B.Sc. (Hons) at Stellenbosch University in 2018, after which he completed his Masters (Part III) at the University of Cambridge in 2020. That led Robin to pursue a PhD in algebraic number theory at the University of Warwick, where he is currently in his second year of studies (under the supervision of Prof Samir Siksek and Prof David Loeffler). His current interests include studying the reduction behaviour of elliptic/hyperelliptic curves and their Jacobians.
