St George's Day 2022 OGU vs SGGS

After 2 years of social distancing and not being able to gather to celebrate St George's Day, it was so wonderful to be able to welcome so many Old Georgians back to the grounds.

With the traditional soccer and squash games on the activity list, we looked to add both chess and a debate.

The enthusiasm of many Old Georgians to get involved and take part on the activities is greatly appreciated and helps to build a lasting Georgian spirit.

The soccer match kicked off at around 14:30 after a warm up, introductions and some photos with a "ready to battle" school team taking the field to give the OG's a run around. With the score being 2 -2 at half time the school team was holding there own but as we went into the second half the steam waned and the final score being 3 - 5 to the OGU team.

Thank you to Mr Namalima, Ethan Daniels (OG 2018S) and Luc Marescia (OG 2019P) for stepping into ref as the game progressed.

The lockdown and pandemic took a bit of a toll on the school teams with them still working on their fitness when it comes to the squash court. We thank Lusanda Somtsewu Gr 8 (GO 2026), for stepping up and taking on Uzair Adam (OG 2013S). It was a well fort match on both side with Uzair coming out the victor.

After winning the English Speech Competition in 2021, the school debating team looked like a team to challenge. Unfortunately both side where unable to participate at this time.

The school chess team arrived eager to put the OG's through there passes on the chess board. Thank you to Jeroen Bormans (OG 2016T) and Ted Falkner (OG 1967Sc) for being part of this activity assed to the St George's Day activities. From all accounts at the end of the day both sides enjoyed the match and the side conversations.

Thank you to the school for getting the students involved and looking forward to the rematch later this year in September.
