2016 - 5 years on - what are they up to


Anina Fouche (OG 2016) @anina_fouche, is currently doing her PGCE at Stellenbosch University for FET Phase. She completed her undergraduate degree in Psychology and Communication Science and English at Varsity College in 2019. Anina is completing a TEFL course and plans to teach in South Korea in the future. She is also still very involved in the ballroom dance world.


SangEun Lee (OG 2016) @sang_sangeun, is currently in her 4th year MBChB (Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery) at Stellenbosch University. After leaving SGGS, SangEun did her Cambridge A-Levels at the International School of Cape Town.

SangEun has been involved in a number of committees since 2018 including, Executive Committee Member: Monitoring and Evaluation, MGD Primary Health Care, 2018 - 2019, Stellenbosch University Surgical Society, sub-committee member, Academic Portfolio 2019 - 2020, Executive Committee 2020 - 2021, Part time research Assistance (SCOME, Stellenbosch) IFMSA - International Federation of Medical Students Association. She has also been a volunteer Medical Screener - MGD Primary Health Care 2018 - 2019 and Student Volunteer - Tygerberg Hospital 2020. SangEun has been awarded Outstanding Subject-Specific tutors in Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences annually. And is a member of the Golden Key Chapter awards 2019.


Melissa Jones (OG 2016) @millyj4_, is currently in her 5th year of medicine at UCT.


Litha Mfiki (OG 2016) @lithamfiki, is currently doing her Masters in Forensic Science at Stellenbosch University.


Declan Naicker (OG 2016) @declannaicker, is currently doing his undergraduate degree in Psychology and Communication Science and English at Varsity College.


Emilio Nomdo (OG 2016) @emilio_nomdo, is currently studying law at UCT, He also has been part of an International child’s right convention in Uganda in 2019.


Jeroen Bormans (OG 2016), is currently doing his masters project in physics at Stellenbosch University, with an interest in nuclear physics. In 2020 he completed his Honours Physics. The project he completed for this promotion was Software for target thickness measurements using X-ray absorption techniques.

In Jeroen’s 2nd year of his undergraduate studies he took part in the South African Mathematics Modelling Competition. His team (Dario Trinchero, C.W. Van De Merwe and himself), placed first for the project titled SAMMC Problem B: Stop, Wait…, Go! This was a problem involving optimisation phenomenon in outlying part of South Africa.

Samkelo Peta (OG 2016), is studying film at AFDA.


Brandon Reynolds (OG 2016) @sir_brandon_reynolds, a business owner and social media influencer has been jet setting South Africa. Between attending huge South African social events, award shows and product launches he also finds the time to run two business. He is the CEO of Inner Circle Concepts (a celebrity, brand, campaign and events management company) which represents some of South Africa’s biggest artists in music, fashion and society.

Brandon also co-founded and owns Jiyane Atelier, a proudly South African luxury furniture brand with his business partner DJ Zinhle (Africa’s biggest and number 1 female DJ).

Brandon can be spotted on most of the exclusive red carpets and in all premium social events


Liam Barendse (OG 2016) @liambarendse, studied a 3-year diploma in ICT systems at iStudent Academy. He did a 6-month internship with Gijima (IT Outsourcing Company) working at Sanlam. He recently took up a contract position with Gijima as a Field Service Engineer I at Pick n Pay Head Office. Liam has been offered a position as a Gijima - Field Service Engineer II at FNB starting April. He has also recently purchased his first home in Kenilworth.


Riyaadh Allie (OG 2016) @restlesscreative_, graduated early in 2020 from the Creative Academy with a Bachelor of Arts in Visual Communication Design, majoring in visual communication and environmental design and minoring in animation. Riyaadh currently works as a visual brand designer for inHouse Brand Architects - serving under their Nike Design team and as a graphic designer for inHouse.


Aaliyah Begg (OG 2016) @aaliyahbegg, is currently doing her Honours in Biotechnology at UWC and is also a member of the Golden Kay International Honour Society.


Ayesha Thomas (OG 2016), is currently in her first year of teaching at a quintile 1-3 school in Mitchell’s Plain Tafelsig, teaching a grade 4 class with learning barriers and are struggling socio economically. Ayesha studied a bachelors of education in Intermediate phase teaching at Varsity College. She hopes to do her honours in inclusive education in the coming years.


Yannic Wells (OG 2016) @yannicwells, is currently in his final year law at UNISA doing a LLB degree. He finished 2020 with 9/10 distinctions with an average of 83%.


Aa’ishah Emeran (OG 2016) @aaishah__emeran, graduated in 2020 from UWC with a BCom General Degree, 6 distinctions and an 82% average while employed as a tutor by the EMS faculty. Currently doing her fulltime honours in the management programme at UWC.


Mignon O’Flatherty (OG 2016) @mignon_oflaherty, after receiving her BA in English and Psychology in 2019. She finished her PGCE at UCT. Volunteered through 2020 at the LEAP Maths and Science School in Langa where she is currently interning. She has also qualified as a Radical Forgiveness Coach and is also currently working part time as the Management and Leadership Intern at the International Institute at the IIRFL Exco Africa Affiliate member and completing her Honours degree in Psychology.


Sarah Ismail (OG 2016) @sarahismailey, is in her final year at UCT studying a BSocSi with majors in Linguistics, English Literature and Organisational Psychology. Sarah also has a small baking business where she sells special homemade treats (@thebakersdelicacies). On completing her studies, Sarah hopes to open her own sustainable business to help underprivileged communities gain access to sustainable resources through things like renewable energy and community food gardens.

Qaadir Cassiem (OG 2016) @qaadir24, is currently in his 3rd year BCom economies at Stellenbosch University.


Sha-abaan Slamang (OG 2016) @sha_abaan, graduated with a BCom Honours in Quantitative Management at Stellenbosch University in December 2020. He is currently working at Shoprite in their supply chain graduate programme. Also doing his MCom in Quantitative Management with, Dr Lieschen Venter as his supervisor and received a grant from FNB for 2021 to do his Masters. Sha-abaan also rejointed/active member of the Systems Thinking in Education Policy (STEP) group (www.step.org.za) along with joining the Operations Research Society of South Africa (ORSSA) this year. He was also a finalist in the ORSSA Communicate you Science competition.

Sha-abaan hopes to complete his Master in Quantitative Management and follow a PhD.


Adam Wallace (OG 2016) @adam_the_bizarre_adventurer, recently finished his post graduate course in film at UCT where he wrote his first feature-length screenplay. During his undergraduate degree at AFDA he directed several short films one of which can be viewed on the AFDA Vimeo Channel - Heel and Abigail.

Ammaar Bawa (OG 2016) @ammaarbawa, graduated in 2020 with his bachelor of social science, majoring in industail sociology and religious studies. Currently completing his postgraduate diploma in business communication at UCT. Ammaar has served on the amnesty International UCT chapter, forming part of the planning and leadership committee from 2018 - 2019.


David Broekmann (OG 2016) @broke_mannn, has completed his degree in Business Science Finance with Accounting at UCT. He is currently doing his Post Graduate Diploma in Accounting at UCT. David has also completed a UCT short course called Finrech: Disruption in Finance. He has recently signed on to do his 3 years of articles at Ernst and Young starting in 2022, working towards achieving a Chartered Accounting qualification through SAICA.


Rebecca Pitt (OG 2016), is currently pursuing her MA in General Linguistics, specialising in field of social linguistics, at Stellenbosch University and working part time as a journalist for Daily Maverick. Rebecca obtained her honours degree in Journalism in 2020 and undergraduate degree in Language and Culture in 2019, both at Stellenbosch University. Some highlights from Rebecca over the past 5 years have been involved in student leadership university structures, serving a Primaria of Monica residence in 2019, going to Strasbourg France in 2019 to obtain her European business certificate, serving as editors for student news publications and tutoring in linguistic “tutlings.”
