OBITUARIES

canon H.H.E. Peacock passed away on 7 July 1995 in Kilkenny, Ireland. Headmaster of St George's Grammar School from 1957-1964, he is remembered for his pride in the school, embodied in his frequent injunction, "Wherever you go, remember you carry the good name of the school with you". An Oxford Blue, cricket and rugby at St George's were keen interests of his, and his great love of the English language was the driving force behind the printing of "English Alive", of which he was co-founder and editor. Strict but fair, St George's is the richer for his time at the school, and he will long be remembered by many.

Arthur 'Harry' Petty, our most senior Old Georgian at 91 years of age, passed away on 11 November 1995. He attended St George's before the 1st World War, and in a letter to us shortly before his death, recalled Dr BarrowDowling, the Cathedral organist and choirmaster since 1888, as well as his two sons 'Bouncer' and Barry, both contemporaries of Harry's. He remembered too, St George's annual school fetes held in the grounds of the Governor General's residence (the Earl of Athlone, whose patronage St George's enjoyed).
